Inclement Weather Policy
Non-Liturgical Parish Activities: In the event of weather or emergency closings, St. Lawrence Catholic Church will follow the decisions of Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) on closings and cancellations. This information is normally available on the radio, TV, on the FCPS website, and on their social media outlets of Facebook and Twitter.
This means that when FCPS cancels “All activities,” all non-liturgical parish activities WILL BE CANCELLED. For example: no CCD classes, no privately scheduled meetings with a priest, no Knights of Columbus meetings, no Soup Suppers, etc.
If FCPS cancels school activities only, and offices remain open, the Parish office will remain open, but all other activities will be cancelled.
If FCPS opens late, the Parish office will be open late and all activities will be held as scheduled.
If FCPS closes early, the Parish office will close early also and all activities will be cancelled.
Liturgical Schedule: The only exception to this policy is for regularly scheduled Masses and all other liturgical activities (e.g. Stations of the Cross) which will never be cancelled.
Please note, that while scheduled Masses and other liturgical activities will be offered, DO NOT COME TO CHURCH IF SAFETY IS A CONCERN. This is particularly true for Masses right after a snow or ice storm when there may still be snow or ice on the sidewalk and/or parking lot. Please exercise great caution and prudence to decide whether to venture out to the church or not. Be mindful that while the roads may be passable, the parking lot and sidewalks at the parish may not be passable.
Note: It is not sinful to miss Holy Mass on Sunday or Holy Days of Obligation when weather conditions are so severe that you cannot come to the church safely.
