Sacristans are an important part of liturgical celebrations.   According to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) #105, the Sacristan “carefully arranges the liturgical books, vestments and other things necessary in the celebration of the Mass.” The work of lay ministers who serve as Sacristans at St. Lawrence Church is performed under the general direction of our clergy.

Prior to each Mass, the Sacristan prepares and sets out all items needed.  The Sacristan makes certain sacred vessels, vestments and other items are cleaned, replaced and stored properly.  The Sacristan also makes sure that adequate supplies of hosts, candles, wine, linen and other items are always available.
