The 40 Days for Life campaign is a focused, prayerful, and life-saving effort that consists of the following main elements:
- 40 days of prayer and fasting
- 40 days of peaceful vigil
- 40 days of community outreach
We are praying that, with God’s help, this groundbreaking effort will help end abortion in Alexandria and throughout our great country. Please visit this website for more information.
St. Lawrence parish welcomes all Volunteers. We are assigned Tuesdays at the vigil site. Please contact the parish office for more information
Here at St. Lawrence parish, a cradle has been placed in the vestibule of the church for donated baby items: newborn to 24 months only. These items are collected and donated to local Pregnancy Centers.
Thank you for your generosity. Please contact us for more information or if you would like to help with this ministry via email.
Pregnant? Need Help?
“Do not be afraid… Nothing is impossible for God“. (Gospel of Luke 1:30) These reassuring words are from Angel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Annunciation. With this in mind, Gabriel Project aims to help pregnant women in need to realize that nothing–not an unexpected child–“is impossible for God“. Pope Benedict XVI said: “Each of us is the result of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary.”
The Gabriel Project Pregnancy Assistance Ministry offers confidential needs assistance, parish “Angel” friends for support, pre-natal care assistance, and additional help from parish ministries, Catholic Charities, crisis pregnancy centers, and other community resources. Gabriel Project pamphlets are available in the parish office.
More information about these programs sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, visit the Diocesan web site or contact us for more information using the “Contact this Ministry” form on the right side. “Rachel mourns for her children; she refuses to be consoled because her children are no more. Thus says the Lord: Cease your cries of mourning. Wipe the tears from your eyes. The sorrow you have shown shall have its reward. There is hope for your future.” (Jeremiah 31:15-17)
It is normal to grieve a pregnancy loss, including the loss of children by abortion. It can form a hole in one’s heart, a hole so deep that sometimes it seems nothing can fill the emptiness. Often a woman may believe that she can never be forgiven for the loss of her child or children by an abortion; she can think there is no hope for her. The same reactions also often happen to men involved in abortions.
But there is HOPE. Through Project Rachel Post-Abortion Healing Ministry, women and men can once again discover the healing and hope given to the repentant soul–healing and forgiveness even after abortions. If you, or a family member, or a friend are hurting from an abortion or abortions, we warmly invite you to call to begin your emotional and spiritual healing: Call 703.841.2504. You are also warmly invited to visit either the website of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington or the national website for Project Rachel for more information. In addition, Project Rachel also has three short videos that you can view by clicking here.
Please see this short message from Bishop Burbidge about Project Rachel:
Pope Saint John Paul II tenderly reminds us all:
“…do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope.” “Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of mercies is ready to give you His forgiveness and His peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To the same Father and to His mercy you can with sure hope entrust your child.” Pope John Paul II (Blessed John Paul) ~ Pamphlets Vitae, No. 99.
