Share Sunday, Drive-Thru, Drop Off Donations and August Angels
SHARE SUNDAY: Our next Share Sunday is the weekend of Aug. 15-16. Volunteers will be at all Masses to collect your donations. Gift cards to grocery stores are always appreciated. Food pantry needs this month are: Cooking oil, pancake syrup, salad dressing, chili/hash/stew, canned tuna, gravy, Masa (Maseca), coffee, tea, laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaners, dish & dishwater detergent, toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner, shaving cream & razors, paper towels, and tissues. Thank you for your participation!
DRIVE-THRU, DROP-OFF DONATIONS: For those who would like to practice social distancing but still donate, we will be holding another donations drive in front of St. Lawrence Church, Sat. Aug 8 from 1:30-4:30 in support of clients of the Koinonia Foundation. Koinonia is a nonprofit organization providing emergency assistance and self-sufficiency services to residents of the Franconia/Kingstowne area. In addition to the pantry needs stated above for Share Sunday, we will also be collecting supplies for students to use in this upcoming school year (as listed with August Angels announcement below). To donate, pull up to the cones wearing a mask and: 1) Place donations in the drop-off bins or 2) Keep your trunk open and a volunteer will collection your donations as you remain in your car.
AUGUST ANGELS: Now thru Aug. 19, Koinonia is collecting donations of new school supplies and backpacks to help area children K-12 grade. Please help provide the tools students need to be successful! Monetary donations ($25 suggested) to purchase a backpack and supplies may be mailed to Koinonia Foundation, P.O. Box 30878, Alexandria, VA 22310. Donations of supplies may be dropped off at Koinonia, 6037 Franconia Road (behind Franconia United Methodist Church) M-F 9am-12:30pm, Thurs 9am-4pm. You may also leave school supplies in the donation bin in our church narthex or bring them to the August Share Sunday. Suggested items: Spiral notebooks, marble composition books, index cards, crayons/colored pencils/highlighters, markers, pencils/mechanical pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens, scissors, erasers, glue bottles, glue sticks, protractors, compasses, rulers, pencil cases, 3-ring binders, tabbed subject dividers, graph paper, staplers and staples, folders, scientific or graphing calculators, backpacks of neutral color, and new socks and underwear. Volunteers (teens and older) will be needed Aug. 21 to help sort and stuff backpacks in a social-distancing environment.
